Laura Quattrocchi, Artist Statement
I am interested to the practice of movement and observation of human patterns. Movement is a common denominator for the human race. In our New World people are less and less physical and have less and less direct contact with each other. I am interested in the practice of movement as a valuable medium through which peoples' perceptions and lives can be changed. Movement is a bridge through which humans can open themselves and see the world in different way, not through their eyes but through their kinesthetic sense. I believe movement and touch can bring compassion and empathy and can unite us all as one and that touch is the most powerful tool we have to connect to each other. My interest in costuming and visual material is an extension to my interest in movement and observation of human patterns. I use found and disposable materials in my work as I am interested in materials and structures that are not seen in our life as valuable.
